Referrals Feel Hard!

A conversation about why referral networks feel hard to build – and what you can do about it

Referral partnerships are a beautiful, shiny promise:

Agree with a fellow business owner to send each other clients.

In practice, though, it rarely works like that.

You attend networking events, you send DMs, you follow up.

But those relationships never seem to go anywhere, least of all toward paid work.

Or you’ve been lucky for a long time.

A few people in your orbit have sent you clients for years, and you haven’t had to do much. Now things have plateaued, and those referrals are evaporating.

Maybe you don’t feel like you have enough clients to send work to other people –

So you feel caught in a chicken-and-egg situation of feeling like you need to wait to build referral partnerships until you have more to give.

Or you’ve invested a lot of effort into coffee chats.

You follow up via email every couple of months, but…nothing.

What are you missing??

Maybe you’re DOING the thing!

You’re collaborating and co-promoting with like-valued folks, but it’s just not producing clients. You find yourself wondering if it’s just you, and how long this takes to start working.

Regardless of where you are right now, you feel stuck.

You have more control than you realize.

To move forward, you need to know what you’re building.

You might be a service provider with two different offers, you want to work with 15 clients each year, and you want to enroll 6 people in a twice-a-year cohort.

Or you might be a consultant with capacity for 8 clients per year in your high-ticket service, and you also sell low-cost digital resources.

Each of these businesses needs a distinctly different referral system.

You need a plan that fits your goals, your personality and bandwidth, and your specific offers.

An effective referral system is not one-size-fits-all. It fits YOUR business.

If you’re feeling stuck, this conversation is for you!

We’ll make space for as many questions as possible, and you’ll receive valuable peer insight. I’ll ask follow-up questions and share ideas.

I’ll also share an overview of the Referral System Studio, so you have a good sense of whether this might be the right fit for you.
